Mental Health Awareness Month

National Mental Health Awareness Month: May 2025

Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been a time to highlight the challenges faced by millions of Americans living with mental health conditions. Each May, organizations like the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Mental Health America (MHA), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) work to break the stigma, offer support, educate the public, and advocate for policies that put mental well-being first.

About Mental Health America (MHA)

Mental Health America (MHA) is a leading nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and promoting mental health as a critical part of overall wellness. MHA provides resources, screening tools, educational programs, and advocacy efforts to improve mental health care access and support communities nationwide.

2025 Theme: "Turn Awareness into Action"

This year’s theme, “Turn Awareness into Action,” celebrates the strides we’ve made in recognizing the importance of mental health and challenges us to take meaningful steps toward change.

From advocacy and education to community engagement and personal growth, “Turn Awareness into Action” is about making a real impact and ensuring mental health is a priority for all.

How You Can Get Involved

1. Partner with MHA

Collaborate with MHA on key initiatives like the MHA screening program, youth projects, and Workplace Mental Health programs.

2. Support Mental Health Month

Help spread the message! Sponsor or participate in MHA’s campaigns to amplify awareness and drive change.

3. Join the Advocacy Network

Stay informed on pressing mental health and substance use issues. Get alerts and learn how to make your voice heard with elected officials.

4. Take a Mental Health Screen

Encourage yourself and others to take a free, confidential mental health screening on MHA’s website. It’s a simple but powerful first step toward better well-being.

5. Become a Monthly Donor

Your ongoing support helps ensure mental health resources are available to those who need them most. Every contribution makes a difference.

6. Organize an Event

Host a fundraiser—whether it’s a pickleball tournament, bake sale, or livestream event, every effort counts.
