MS Awareness Week 2025: Raising Awareness and Speaking Up
MS Awareness Week holds a special place in my heart because my mom and sister both live with MS. Seeing their strength and resilience firsthand has made me even more passionate about spreading awareness and advocating for better support. In 2025, MS Awareness Week takes place from March 9–15, with the theme: "Raising awareness and speaking up about the realities of life with MS."
How You Can Get Involved
We can all play a part in raising awareness and showing support for those living with MS. Here are some simple but impactful ways to get involved:
Tell MS what you think of it on social media using hashtags like #MSAwarenessWeek and #ThisIsMS. Let’s make some noise!
Follow the National MS Society and other MS organizations to stay informed and engaged.
Wear orange, the official color of MS awareness, to stand in solidarity.
Download the MS Trust’s free MS Awareness Week pack, filled with posters, social sharing images, and other tools to help spread the message.
MS Awareness Week Activities
This week is all about education, connection, and advocacy. Here’s what’s happening:
Sharing real stories from people living with MS, because personal experiences matter.
Providing resources and support to help those with MS and their caregivers navigate the journey.
Conducting community surveys on sensitive MS symptoms to foster understanding.
Breaking the stigma surrounding MS symptoms—because awareness leads to change.
Understanding MS
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex, unpredictable disease that impacts the central nervous system (CNS), disrupting nerve signals between the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms vary from person to person, but common challenges include:
Fatigue and mobility issues
Numbness or tingling in the limbs
Muscle weakness and spasms
Cognitive difficulties, including memory and focus struggles
Emotional challenges, such as depression and anxiety
How Therapists Can Help
As someone who has seen the effects of MS up close, I know how critical emotional and mental support can be. Therapists play a huge role in helping individuals manage the psychological and cognitive effects of MS. Here’s how:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help with stress, depression, and anxiety.
Mindfulness and relaxation techniques offer relief and improve well-being.
Support groups provide connection and shared experiences.
Cognitive rehabilitation therapy assists with memory, focus, and problem-solving.
